In work yesterday a complete stranger initially spoke to me in Welsh.
My initial response was -"What!"

The woman then asked me in Welsh if I could speak Welsh and I managed to get my self together and respond in Welsh - yes of course but I am learning to speak Welsh. the conversation carried on in Welsh as to where we we from, that I should be able to speak Welsh from where I was from and me explaining that my father was a first language Welsh speaker, though my mother only spoke English and how disappointing that he didn't teach his children.
The fact that someone spoke to me in Welsh is not unique, this has happened a few times in my life but always I would say- ' oh I'm sorry I don't speak Welsh'. and that regret was always genuine.
Yesterday though I didn't have to say that and I felt that I really have achieved something!
