Not surprised you booked into a B&B after that. That walk had a nick name when i was a squaddie. it was called ' The Fan Dance'. You couldn't call yourself an infantry commander unless you'd completed the Fan Dance lol. Never did it myself, heard that the wind picks up on the summit there and know of at least two occasions when someone got blown off the top.

Sounds a bit alarming! But I like the idea of an SSiW camping trip over that way. If there's somewhere to stay a bit west of Llanberis, it'll make it easier to get over to Llithfaen, where the best pub in the world is situated

It's certainly worth trying to pick a date for a weekend camp somewhere. It'll automatically be something of a Bootcamp, whenever SSiWers gather they do their best to do as much Welsh as possible.

If you get it organised well enough in advance, it might even be that you can get a Camping vocab unit out of this for a reward from out Glorious Leader.

but speaking welsh to the farmer ( or his wife) played a part in getting a nice price. I'm pretty sure she lowered the tarif ( probably felt sorry for me lol)

Good point, i have often recieved a good rate as soon as they realise that i have arrived late and will leave early,
i have even had a free pitch when they have asked if there is a charity link (see blog).

I have been looking forward to this trip, with all the comments about welsh camping i'm looking forward to it even more. How the welsh goes along the way remains to be seen, but i will be trying at every oportunity.

Warning, pitch once on a cliff top and watch the sun go down while lying in your tent, or wake in some woodland surrounded by the dawn chorus and you'll be hooked.

The Hafod y Llan campsite in Cwm Gwynant is lovely - and there are firepits where you can have an open camp fire, which many campsites do not allow. We did a bit of filming there last year.

You use a camp stove, or just eat takeout or cold food. And wear warm clothes. And don't make s'mores.

i like the idea of the campfire so long as the wind is blowing the smoke away from your tent lol. Great to have a waterfall nearby, it really sells the site. I tried out my new one man tent in Llanberis. Quiet pleased with it, but as yet need to test it in a downpour. Last year I bought some bike paniers too with the idea of cycling in Wales. I think I would have had to have reserved a place on the train for a bike. I think i might hire a bike next time I go and attach my camping gear to it.
