First official meeting in Welsh

Postby SJ » Fri Jan 20, 2012 11:12 am

I know its not a "first encounter" by a long way, but just had to post as I officially participated in my first meeting entirely in Welsh. It was a 15 minute 1-2-1 meeting with the welsh tutor responsible for exams at the Welsh for Adults Centre. I was very nervous just before I arrived, as I'd never met the tiwtor before or been to the Canolfan when all the staff/receptionist were there and didn't really know what to expect of the meeting - which never helps!

Even though it was a meeting at the learners Centre with a tiwtor, the email exchange had been in formal welsh (thanks to patience, geiriadur.net and cysyllt!) so backing out and speaking English due to nerves (which I have been known to do!) was never an option!

Well the meeting was only short, but I managed to speak to the receptionist, and conduct the whole meeting confidently speaking Welsh and I understood everything and everything was fine! No bluffing required! My first official work-like meeting through the medium of Welsh. O'n i'n teimlo'n hollol dwyieithog a mor chuffed ar ol hynny!

I've been a bit rusty since the Christmas break, but I think i'm now back to where I was just after the Eisteddfod :D Definitely back on the upward climb on this Welsh language rollercoaster!

Looking forward to the party tomorrow! :penblwydd: It will be great to see everyone, either in person and those "hanging out"!

Hopefully the Welsh Encounters of the Nervous Kind board will be full of stories after the party! :dawnsio:

Surreal fact: I went home after the meeting and opened golwg to find the same tiwtor staring back at me! He is the subject of this weeks Ugain Cwestiyn article. Byd bach!

It's nice to hear someone leaving the rope go and rowing out to deeper waters. The fish are bigger there too.

Excellent -- so, was it one of those situations that felt a lot easier once you got started?
