Second, If you order a coffee in Austria, you don´t plainly order "coffee" but specify what sort of coffee you´d like to have: Melange, Kapuziner, Verlängerter, Einspänner, Fiacker, Kaisermelange, Maria Theresia, Tasse Gold; Milchkaffee, Käferlkaffee, Kleiner Brauner, Großer Brauner, Mokka, Cafe au lait, Frappé, etc.
Just in case you visit Kaffeehaus...

Blimey - and I thought Starbucks and Costa were overdoing it -
Thanks clarifying the use of "moin".

Oh, that´s supposed to be a Melange. To make it all confusing: The Melange is, what you get as "Capuccino" everywhere else in the world, but it is made of Mokka and not Espresso (like most viennese coffee specials are). The Kapuziner (which is de german word for Capuccino) instead, is a Mokka with whipped cream...

Ok, when you come to Bootcamp, you are on coffee duty. Ich werde eine Melange haben, ohne Zucker, aber mit ein bisschen Stroh Rum

I recall when I was a student near Vienna one summer (many, MANY years ago) spending some time in the city, and being told to order "Kaffe mit Schlag" as that was the best (at the time). Somehow that phrase has stuck with me all these years...

I love the coffee in Austria but stroh 80 needs to come with a public health warning  My husband bought it once in a small supermarket as it was so cheap and he couldn't talk for the rest of the day :shush: We were told later that the alcoholics drink it mostly
