Bootcamp Info Page on new site

Postby MikeEllwood » Thu Feb 06, 2014 2:22 pm

Didn't there use to be some videos on this page?

https://site.saysomethingin.com/communities/welsh-for-english-speakers/pages/ssiw-bootcamp-cyen

Just white space in between blocks of text, for me, at the moment.
(This is with Chrome).

Reloading the page doesn't make any difference.

Hmm... The embeds seem to be there (looking at the page source) but they aren't showing up for me (in Firefox) either. Hmmmm....

Yes, the iframes are showing up if you do an inspect element, and the you tube videos are viewable if you navigate to the embedded URL... It looks like FireFox is blocking content it believes to be insecure.

If you go in with IE, you get the Insecure Content warning, but if you accept that, then the videos appear.

In FireFox (I am using v27.0), a little shield appears in the top left hand corner of the browser. Clicking that, and selecting Disable Protection on this Page, brings the videos back. I guess that there will be something similar in Chrome.

Good job, Stu! That one always trips me up! Works now for me in Firefox. In Chrome, there's a little shield at the right end of the address box - click on that and it will give you the option of accepting "insecure information". It is possible that this page should just not be an "https" page?

Diolch yn fawr i bawb .... I remember now, there was a similar issue with the SSiS intro page.

Security eh? Dontcha just luvvit?

Clicked on the shield, a mae popeth yn iawn rwan.

EDIT: Should really have remembered this "feature", felly mae'n ddrwg gen i. In my defence, that shield thingy in Chrome is a bit subtle to spot, unless mae gen ti llygaid eryr / mae llygaid eryr gyda ti. (~ you are eagle-eyed).

Argh. You'd really think that Chrome (owned by Google) and YouTube (owned by, er, Google) would play nicely with each other....

We're closing in on the new layout, so I think we'll look to hammer this out once we've switched...:)

I think it's just suspicious about the use of IFrames.

Yep, it is due to the page being served over HTTPS and the active content (video, ayyb) in the iframes being HTTP.

This tripped us up at work when we were doing a user study over Mechanical Turk - MT is over SSL but our server didn't have a certificate. Chrome handled it really badly - just giving a little icon in the top left to warn you and then totally not displaying the insecure content in the iframe. Really poor behaviour. IE users had the smoothest experience (it's not often a web developer gets to say this...)
