Speaking Welsh on Ebay!

Postby JeanB » Sat May 11, 2013 9:59 am

I hope you don't mind me sharing this. I am just so chuffed!Last week I made an enquiry on ebay about an item. When the lady replied I noticed her ebay name included a Welsh word so I sent a short reply in Welsh, to which she then replied in Welsh. We are now e bost ffrindiau! We spoke to each other on the phone this morning and managed to have a 20 minute conversation totally in Welsh. There were a lot of words I couldn't get but I understood enough to get the jist and keep going. I have managed a few face to face conversations with people in Welsh now but this was my longest ever phone call and I was high as a kite when I came off the phone. :D

So diolch eto for this brilliant course that gives me the confidence to speak the language not just read and write it. To think I initially decided SSIW wasn't for me because I had to put my pen down!!!
Please feel free to correct my mistakes. Diolch!

Yes I hear it!... Hiraeth - the link with the long-forgotten past, the language of the soul, the call from the inner self. Half forgotten - fraction remembered. It speaks from the rocks, from the earth, from the trees and in the waves. It's always there.

That's excellent, I'm scared of talking Welsh on the phone. It doesn't get any tougher than that. Well done to you.

Thanks Grunt. I'm scared on the phone too which is why I was so chuffed I managed it. But as always I was helped along by a very kind and patient member of the Welsh community!! Anyway I think something might just get a bit tougher than that...Bootcamp?? Well done on your achievement. Have really enjoyed reading all the posts. I might just brave it one day!

You should edit that to "I will brave it very soon". You are more than ready and you will NOT regret it.

That's a fantastic story and we have experienced something similar.
My husband Carwyn, was reviewing a wine company on the internet and received a reply from a person with a Welsh name, the same as his late brother. In writing to him in Welsh he said that he must be a Welshman with a name as such....Meirion.
A reply came back 'Neis cael ebost Cymraeg newid, dw i'n dod o gogledd.'
Outcome: we are going to the wine company to make some purchases.....I hope to have a few words with him myself, on the strength of that.
Iechyd da...Ufwch lan!
