Brain wiring!

Postby leiafee » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:28 pm

Was at a conference thing today on Technology and Welsh language and was delighted to understand almost everything. But something very odd happens to my brain! For a start I can't listen in one language and note take in another... Which is fine except that one presentaion when the presenter was speaking English and using simultaneous translation to take questions, which were coming in bilingually, at which point my fingers forgot what language I was typing in...  The meaning is there but the language switch in my brain has a loose connection or something because it changes from sentence to sentence and sometimes MID sentence.

I didn't even notice until I came to look back over them. How very odd to not even know what language you're producing...

I do almost exactly the same when I'm note-taking...:)

A friend of my daughter once took a French language Advanced Placement exam, then later the same day a history exam. Somewhere in the middle of a long essay question on the history exam, she realized she had written the whole thing...in French. At that point, the rest of the essay was all worked out in her head...in French...so she just carried on.

I believe the teacher let her take another crack at it later on.

Did they say what Apple were up to 'yn y byd Cymraeg'?

It's odd that you can set your calendar to work in Welsh, but not the whole device. Do you know if it's something they're working on?

I'm looking forward to Siri speaking Welsh. As it stands, if lots of your music is Welsh by Welsh artists, good luck getting at it with voice commands!

No, it was just an open question about why they're not more in there, given that there's complete language packs for Windows and Google have now got so much available, even Facebook offers the interface in Welsh and so do smaller (still big) outfits like Wordpress.
