I'm studying abroad in London this term, but I have quite a bit of free time to travel. My first order of business was to get to Wales as soon as possible. So last weekend I took the train to Cardiff and spent the day there. I had a wonderful time!
As I was wandering about, the first thing I ran across an event called "The Human Library: Exploring Multilingualism in Wales". I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I took the dive anyway. It turned out that it was sort of a 'meet and greet' with a list of books that considered the impact of multilingualism. A different person represented each book and you would chat with them about the book.
Of course, I didn't recognize any of the titles, so I picked one out that had Welsh in it. A lucky pick, because it just so happened that the lady representing the title was a native Welsh speaker as well as a tutor! We exchanged some conversations in Welsh and she gave me a few new words to add to my vocabulary. It was exciting to speak Welsh to someone in person for the first time!
