That's so cool that you'll be able to speak with you family in Welsh, and I love the idea of telling your dad first - such a cool gift :D
"The sky is cold and the floor water is too hard to drink, but I have my handcoats and the spacelight is warm. Listen - the flappy planes are beeping in the stick towers."
"Those are all the wrong words for those things."
"Maybe. But the things themselves are alright, so who cares?"

As Aran said, they'll be delighted! Go for it, no matter how small at first. My family on my dad's side are first-language Welsh-speakers, and whenever I've tried in the past to use the odd word of Welsh with them, they've always been very excited and encouraging. Since starting with SSiW and being able to use whole sentences, they're even more delighted. (Actually, I don't think my auntie actually listens to what I'm saying - she's so busy saying 'Da iawn! Da iawn!' because I'm using Welsh that I don't think she's actually taking in the content. As proof of this, when staying with her recently, I reminded her that I don't eat meat, and in the morning was greeted with a full english breakfast!) So yes, go for it. It's an amazing feeling, and as we continue working through the course, our interactions with our families yn Gymraeg will grow from single sentences to full-blown conversations before we know it! :D
Please feel free to correct my Welsh. Currently on Cwrs 3 De, Gwers 4.
Dw i'n moyn llenwi'r we gydag amlgyfrwng hyfryd yn Gymraeg!

Diolch yn fawr everyone! :D
I was only with my grandparents for a couple of hours and there was so much to get through that my Welsh didn't get much of a chance, but the odd couple of words over dinner were certainly appreciated :D
Hopefully next time I'll be able to manage a whole conversation!

Well done! I always remember my first real "information exchange" (i.e., not a pleasantary) in Welsh where I asked where the learners' tour was starting from at the Eisteddfod. My face was aching from the smile. :)

Da Iawn! So exciting,isn't it!
I wondered if your dad (and you if you're in the area) knew about our Cylch Siarad Milton Keynes! We are a group of Welsh Learners who meet on the last Thursday of every month for an informal chat and a drink in Ye Olde Swan in Woughton-on-the-Green, Milton Keynes. A few of us a learning with SSiW (including myself); others are fairly fluent, but only too happy to help and support the beginners. Mae fe'n hwyl! If you (or your dad) want to know more, feel free to contact me. Pob lwc gyda dy dysgu! Jan.

I don't know about it, as far as I know my Dad doesn't either. I'll mention it to him, I'd be interested in coming along if ever my visits coincide with the meet-ups anyway :)
